Accounting automation with Claude and QuickBooks: a how-to for Canada
You can connect QuickBooks Online to Claude in Canada through Composio, a connection service that gives Claude 105 QuickBooks tools: invoices, estimates, bills, payments, journal entries and reports such as aged receivables and profit and loss (Composio QuickBooks toolkit). Intuit's own connector for Claude is available in the US only, with no confirmed date for other regions (Intuit Developer community).

What is accounting automation with Claude?
Accounting automation software takes repeat bookkeeping jobs off your desk: chasing who owes you, drafting invoices, pulling month-end reports. With Claude, you ask in plain English and Claude calls QuickBooks for you. "Who owes us more than 60 days?" becomes an aged receivables report. "Draft an invoice for the Smith job" becomes a draft invoice you review in QuickBooks.
Three words you will see on the way:
- Composio is a company that sits between Claude and QuickBooks. It holds the QuickBooks login so Claude never does, and it turns your request into the right QuickBooks action.
- Custom connector is the spot in Claude's settings where you paste Composio's web address. You do it once.
- OAuth sign-in is the "sign in with Intuit" screen you already know from other apps. You type your QuickBooks password there, on Intuit's page, not into Claude.
A connector is the link between Claude and one of your tools. Claude for Small Business, Anthropic's plugin for small businesses, lists Intuit QuickBooks among its partner connectors (our Claude for Small Business guide). What can Claude do in QuickBooks?
Composio's QuickBooks toolkit lists 105 tools. Here are eight common jobs and the Composio tools behind them, named as Composio's toolkit page names them.

The rest include vendors, customers, purchase orders, journal entries, trial balance, general ledger and PDF copies of invoices and estimates (Composio).
How do you connect QuickBooks to Claude in Canada?
Before you start, you need the Claude desktop app on a paid plan, and your QuickBooks Online login. These are Composio's steps for Claude (Composio, "How to connect Quickbooks to Claude").
- In the Claude desktop app, choose Customize in the left sidebar, then Connectors, then the + icon. Add a custom connector with the server URL
https://connect.composio.dev/mcp. - Choose Connect. A browser window opens where you authorize Composio.
- Back in Claude, ask it to connect to QuickBooks, or give it any QuickBooks task. Claude gives you a link to sign in to your QuickBooks account.
On a Claude Team or Enterprise plan, an Owner or Primary Owner must enable the connector before you can connect QuickBooks. If Claude shows a permission prompt, approve it before Claude changes data in QuickBooks (Composio).
Which jobs should you automate first?
Start with jobs where Claude only reads your books, then move to jobs where it writes.
- Read: who owes you. Ask for the aged receivables report and a short list of customers to call. Nothing in QuickBooks changes.
- Read: last month. Ask for the profit and loss report for last month next to the month before, and the three biggest changes.
- Write, with review: one invoice. Ask Claude to draft an invoice for a job you know well, then open it in QuickBooks and check every line before it goes to the customer.
Run each one on numbers you already know. If Claude's answer matches yours, hand it the next job.
Is it safe to connect your books?
You sign in to QuickBooks yourself, through OAuth, so you never hand your password to Claude. Composio states that it stores credentials with AES-256 encryption and decrypts them inside its own execution layer, "not inside the model's context," and that tokens are auto-rotated and revocable (Composio enterprise, Composio protection).

What does it cost?
Two costs: your Claude plan and Composio. Claude plan prices are in our Claude for Small Business guide. Composio's pricing page lists a free Hobby plan with 100,000 tool calls a month and no credit card, and a Pro plan at US$29 a month (Composio pricing).

What if it does not work?
These are the problems Composio lists on its own setup page, and its fixes (Composio).
- Claude ignores QuickBooks. Turn Composio on in the chat's connector menu (the + button, then Connectors), then ask again.
- "MCP server" error. Check the address is exactly
https://connect.composio.dev/mcp, then remove the connector and add it again under Customize, Connectors. - The QuickBooks sign-in link does not work. Ask Claude to try the connection again. Composio sends a fresh link.
- It worked yesterday and fails today. Ask Claude to check the connection, reconnect if it asks, and approve any permission prompt.
- The connector is missing on a Team plan. The plan owner has to switch it on first.

Where does it stop?
- QuickBooks Online. Composio's tools are written for QuickBooks Online.
- Actions are real. A created invoice or bill lands in your books. Review writes until you trust a job.
- Team plans need the owner. On Claude Team or Enterprise, the Owner or Primary Owner enables the connector first.
