Claude for Small Business: what it does, what it costs and how to set it up

Claude for Small Business is a plugin from Anthropic that adds 43 ready-to-run workflows to Claude (formerly called Claude Cowork), covering jobs such as month-end close, invoice chasing, restocking and lead follow-up. It works with 37 partner tools, including HubSpot, Stripe, Xero, PayPal and Google Workspace. Every workflow starts in approval mode: Claude drafts and stages the work, and nothing sends, posts or pays until you say so (Anthropic's plugin page).
This guide covers what the plugin does, what it costs, where it stops and what to check before you rely on it. It is written for owners of small businesses in Chilliwack, Abbotsford, Langley, Agassiz, Hope and the rest of Canada. threndle.ai is an independent agency and is not affiliated with Anthropic.
Key takeaways
- The plugin installs in the Claude desktop app on a paid plan (Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise). Anthropic lists the Team seat at $28 per seat per month billed annually, and its tutorial puts the install and a first task at about 15 minutes.
- Approval mode is the default. You read what Claude stages before anything goes out.
- Anthropic stores business-plan data in the United States, and does not use it to train its models by default.
- Test a workflow on your own books before you rely on it, especially anything that touches health information.
What is Claude for Small Business?
Anthropic launched it on May 13, 2026 as a package of connectors and ready-to-run workflows that put Claude inside the tools small businesses already use. The launch post listed 15 workflows (Anthropic, May 13, 2026). The plugin page now lists 43 workflows and 37 partner connectors, including Intuit QuickBooks, PayPal, HubSpot, Shopify, Salesforce, Gusto, Square, Stripe, Xero, Canva, Docusign, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack and Zapier.
You switch it on in the Claude desktop app, connect your tools and pick the job. Claude does the work, and you approve it before anything sends, posts or pays. Claude was formerly called Claude Cowork, and Anthropic's install steps still use the name Cowork for the place where you add the plugin (Anthropic's tutorial).
A connector is the link between Claude and one of your tools, such as Xero or HubSpot. A slash command is a shortcut you type, such as /monday-brief.
What can the 43 workflows do?
Each workflow has a slash command and a plain-English description. Here are eight, grouped by the job they do. The tools listed are examples from Anthropic's tutorial, not the full list for each workflow.
| Job | Command | What it does | Works with |
|---|---|---|---|
| Start the week | /monday-brief | One page with cash, sales, pipeline, your calendar and the one thing that most needs you. | HubSpot, Google Calendar, Stripe, Xero |
| Close the month | /close-month | Reconciles your books against your payment processors, updates the cash forecast and writes a close packet for your accountant. | Xero, Zoho Books, Stripe, PayPal, Square |
| Restock | /restock | Figures out what to reorder, drafts the purchase orders and supplier emails, and logs them in your books. | Xero, Zoho Books, Shopify, Square, Gmail |
| Pay the bills | /pay-the-bills | Codes your bills, checks you have the cash and lines up the payment run for your approval. | Xero, Zoho Books, Gmail, PayPal |
| Answer new leads | /speed-to-lead | Answers new inquiries on nights and weekends and updates your CRM. | Gmail, Google Calendar, HubSpot |
| Find prospects | /grow-pipeline | Finds prospects that look like your best customers, writes outreach in your voice and logs each touch in your CRM. | Apollo, Clay, Gmail, HubSpot |
| Know who to call | /call-list | Picks the top leads to call today and writes a call card with talking points for each. | HubSpot, Gmail, Google Calendar |
| Win customers back | /reactivate | Finds customers who stopped buying and drafts a personal win-back message for each. | HubSpot, Xero, Gmail, Shopify |
These eight are a sample. Anthropic's plugin page and tutorial list the rest, including invoice chasing, tax-season preparation, inventory planning, contract review and hiring support (Anthropic's tutorial).
How do you set it up?
Before you start, you need a paid Claude plan, the Claude desktop app and the logins for the tools you want to connect.
- Install the Claude desktop app and use a Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise plan.
- Open Cowork, the name Anthropic's tutorial still uses, choose Customize in the left sidebar, then Plugins, then +, then find Small Business and choose Install.
- Run
/smb-onboard, or say "set me up". Claude asks about your business and helps you connect your tools. - Start with one workflow. Read what Claude stages, then approve it.
Anthropic's tutorial estimates 15 minutes for the install, the customization and a first task (Anthropic). The install is the short part. Deciding which workflow gets which of your books and inboxes, and checking the first few results against your own numbers, takes longer.
If a tool you rely on has no connector, the plugin's build-connector skill links it through Zapier. If you have no connectors at all, you can upload a spreadsheet or statement and most workflows still run (Anthropic's plugin page).
What does it cost?
The plugin installs on a paid Claude plan, so the plan is the cost. Anthropic's pricing page, read on October 5, 2026, lists the Team Standard seat at $28 per seat per month billed annually, or $35 billed monthly, for teams of 2 to 150 (Anthropic pricing). Usage limits apply, and the listed prices do not include tax, so confirm the currency and the total at checkout.
If you want us to set it up, our published pricing is below, in Canadian dollars (our published pricing).
| Build | Price | Covers |
|---|---|---|
| Roadmap | CA$3,000 to CA$3,500 | One operational bottleneck, a two-week build |
| Momentum | CA$4,000 to CA$5,000 | A mid-tier build |
| Growth | CA$6,000 to CA$9,000 | A full multi-workflow build |
Each build carries a monthly care plan of CA$300 to CA$600 depending on the tier. We confirm the scope on a short call before anything is signed.
Where does your data go?
Anthropic states that data from its business plans is stored in the United States and may be processed in other regions (Anthropic privacy center). On business plans such as Claude Team, Anthropic does not use your conversations to train its models by default (Anthropic). Feedback you choose to submit with the thumbs up/down button is the exception, and Anthropic keeps that conversation for up to 5 years. Chats you delete leave Anthropic's back end within 30 days (Anthropic).
Anthropic holds SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, ISO 42001 and CSA STAR certifications for Claude Team (Anthropic Trust Center, Anthropic certifications). It also says your existing permissions hold: if an employee cannot see something in a connected tool such as Drive today, they cannot see it through Claude (Anthropic).
If you need Canadian data residency, Anthropic offers Canadian regions through Amazon Bedrock and Google Vertex (Anthropic regional compliance). That is a different setup from the Claude app, and it would be scoped separately.
Where a tool connects through Composio instead of Anthropic's own connector, Composio holds the connection's sign-in token. Composio states that it stores each token encrypted, that the AI model never sees the stored credentials, and that it is audited to SOC 2 Type 2 and certified to ISO 27001:2022 (Composio protection, Composio enterprise).
Where does it stop?

- Approval mode. You read and approve what Claude stages. That is the safe setting, and it means a new workflow is not hands-off on day one. Anthropic says you can let a workflow run on its own schedule once you trust it.
- Your tool list. Check that your accounting and CRM tools are among the 37 connectors. If one is missing,
build-connectoror a spreadsheet upload may cover it. - Patient and other regulated records. Work that involves protected health information needs its own scope before you start. Anthropic's Business Associate Agreement, a US HIPAA arrangement, applies to Claude Enterprise, once the organization's owner turns it on, and to the first-party API. Skills, and data sent to third-party tools through connectors, are available but not covered by that agreement (Anthropic).
- Usage limits. Anthropic applies usage limits on every plan, so a heavy month can hit a limit.
Should you set it up yourself or hire someone?
If you run a business of one to five people on Xero and HubSpot, the plugin's own setup skill may be enough. Help is worth considering when you have several tools to connect, staff who need training, or approval rules you want written for your business. We build on Claude and on other platforms, and the diagnostic comes first.
What have we run on Claude ourselves?
In under an hour, by our own timing, we built a sample prospect list for a Langley-based HVAC company: 14 companies and 26 contacts, laid out for HubSpot's import tool. On October 1 we scheduled 42 posts on 13 topics across Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn in about two and a half hours of working time, and a person approved every post. These are our own production counts on Claude. They are not client results, and they are not a test of this plugin. The details are in our BC automation post.
Frequently asked questions

Is Claude for Small Business free?
The plugin needs a paid Claude plan. Anthropic's install tutorial lists Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise. The plan is the cost, and its prices are in the cost section above.
Is it the same thing as Claude Cowork?
Claude Cowork is the former name of Claude, and people still search for it that way. Claude for Small Business is a plugin you add to Claude. Anthropic's install steps still call the place where you add it Cowork.
Can Claude connect to QuickBooks in Canada?
Yes, through Composio. Composio offers a connection where you sign in with your normal account and approve access. Intuit says its connector for Claude is currently available in the US only, with no confirmed date for other regions (Intuit Developer community).
Does it work for a Canadian business?
It connects to tools Canadian businesses use, including Xero, Zoho Books, Stripe, Square, PayPal and HubSpot. Connectors reach each region on their own schedule, so check each tool you plan to use.
Where is my data stored?
Anthropic states that data from its business plans is stored in the United States and may be processed in other regions. On business plans such as Claude Team it does not use your conversations to train its models by default.
What should you do first?
Pick one workflow, such as /monday-brief or /close-month. Run it on data you already know, read what it stages and compare it with your own numbers. If it matches, move to the next one. To see where your own time goes first, try the 3-minute diagnostic, or book a meeting.
